Trends in using electric cargo bikes in Europe
Three-wheeled electric bicycle delivery services are booming in European countries such as France and England.
With their compact design, zero greenhouse gas emissions, reduced traffic congestion and reduced delivery costs, these electric delivery vehicles are making their way into every corner of Europe.
To support the trend of using electric delivery bikes, many large European automobile corporations have been working with startups to produce these models. Meanwhile, giant e-commerce sites such as Amazon are also testing electric delivery services in some countries.
On a traffic jam day in the British capital London, parcels will still be delivered on time thanks to three-wheeled electric delivery bikes like this.
According to the London Cycling Association, the number of electric delivery vehicles has increased by 30% by May 2023, to thousands of licensed vehicles here.
"We can get through traffic faster. It's cheaper for consumers," said Joe Sharpe, founder of London-based electric delivery company Zhero.
“The skyrocketing price of fuel, the charges for driving into London’s ultra-low emission zones, and the pollution, all of these things are making electric delivery vehicles the obvious choice,” said Ben Jaconelli, CEO of London-based electric bike company Fully Charged.

Amazon has 1,000 electric delivery bikes in operation. FedEx and other carriers have also tested the service in London.
In Germany, the largest market for e-bikes, there are already around 165,000 on the road every day, while Copenhagen, Denmark has around 40,000.
In order to reduce the cost of electric tricycles for delivery in France, the car manufacturer has teamed up with a startup to commercialize this product line, while still ensuring maximum safety in terms of technology and machinery.
According to Mr. Thomas Coulbeut, founder of the French bicycle company Douze: "Traditionally, bicycle frames are made up of many different small parts, which are then welded together, which takes a lot of effort. But thanks to the help of precision mechanics, the frame of this electric cargo bike is produced differently.
It is expected that by 2024, some car manufacturers such as Valeo and Peugeot will launch some electric cargo bike models to compete in this segment with much potential. Currently, the selling price of these models ranges from 2,000 to 10,000 USD/vehicle.
