NVIDIA introduces new AI supercomputer, super compact, "student" price - as cheap as an office laptop but extremely useful
With its super cheap price, this AI supercomputer from NVIDIA is especially suitable for AI research enthusiasts with limited finances, such as students or small companies.
NVIDIA recently introduced the Jetson Orin Nano Super development kit, the successor to the Jetson Orin Nano kit from 2022. This compact AI supercomputer can fit in the palm of your hand, including an 8GB Jetson Orin Nano system module and a reference board.
In terms of performance, the Jetson Orin Nano Super achieves 68 trillion operations per second (TOPS), a 70% increase over the previous generation. NVIDIA also claims a 1.7x improvement in generative AI inference performance and a 50% increase in bandwidth, reaching 102GB per second. The CPU frequency is now 1.7GHz, a modest increase from the previous generation's 1.5GHz.
IA claims that Jetson Orin Nano Super benefits all common generative AI models, including large language models (LLMs), visual language models, and vision converters. Jetson Orin Nano Super software updates can also improve performance over the previous generation, which is good news for those who own the original Jetson Orin Nano
Priced at just $249, down from $499 from the previous generation, the Jetson Orin Nano Super development kit is now available from NVIDIA-approved retailers, making it the lowest-priced product in its class.
NVIDIA also announced a new software update that will boost generative AI performance by 1.7x for current Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit owners. Whether you’re a commercial AI developer, hobbyist, or student, the new toolkit delivers advancements in generative AI capabilities and performance.
Whether building a generative-based LLM chatbot for enhanced retrieval, building a visual AI agent, or deploying an AI-based robot, the Jetson Orin Nano Super is the ideal solution. It is suitable for those looking to develop skills in generative AI, robotics, or computer vision.
Despite its lower price, Jetson's performance is significantly improved over the previous generation.
The enhanced performance of Jetson Orin Nano Super benefits all popular transformer-based computer vision and generative AI models. The development kit includes an 8GB Jetson Orin Nano system-on-a-chip (SoM) and reference board, creating an ideal platform for prototyping edge AI applications.
NVIDIA's Jetson AI Labs provides immediate support for advanced models from the open source community and easy-to-use tutorials. Developers can also get extensive support from the Jetson community and inspiration from projects created by other developers.
Jetson runs NVIDIA AI software including NVIDIA Isaac for robotics, NVIDIA Metropolis for vision AI, and NVIDIA Holoscan for sensor processing. Development time can be shortened with NVIDIA Omniverse Replicator for generating synthetic data and NVIDIA TAO Toolkit for fine-tuning pre-trained AI models from the NGC catalog.
Jetson ecosystem partners provide additional AI software and systems, development tools, and custom software development. They can also provide support for cameras and other sensors, as well as carrier boards and design services for product solutions.
With the Jetson Orin Nano Super development kit, NVIDIA is delivering the smallest and cheapest generative AI supercomputer ever, promising to accelerate the development and application of artificial intelligence in the near future.
