Surprising Story: Intel's New Graphics Card Is So Successful That It's Sold Out Even Though No One Knew About Its Previous Generation
Intel had a tough 2024, but at least there was a silver lining for the "green team" before the year ended, and surprisingly, that success came from the discrete graphics card market. The Arc B580 Battlemage GPU, which was launched this month, received a lot of praise from the tech world and is currently almost sold out on many retail platforms.
The past year has been a difficult one for Intel. The company has been hit hard on all sides, culminating in CEO Pat Gelsinger being forced to "retire" by the board of directors in early December.
In September, it was reported that Intel had completely lost market share in the dedicated GPU segment. The company previously held a 4% market share thanks to the Arc Alchemist line in 2022, but that figure was short-lived before it “evaporated”.
It seemed like Intel was at a dead end, but the appearance of the Arc B580 in early December changed the situation. With a price of only $ 250, this card is considered by many experts to be the most worth-buying GPU today. Many graphics review sites commented that it is better than the GeForce RTX 4060 and Radeon RX 7600, not only in performance but also in price. Another notable point is that the Arc B580 is equipped with 12GB of VRAM, while the two competitors only stop at 8GB.

Demand was so high that the GPU quickly sold out at many retailers. Currently, the remaining models on Newegg are mostly the Gunnir version from China, with prices sometimes as high as $429. On Amazon, the Arc B580 is also often out of stock.

Steve Walton from Hardware Unboxed confirmed that this was not a “paper launch.” He said that the manufacturers, retailers, and distributors he spoke to confirmed that the initial shipment was indeed plentiful. They were even surprised by the huge interest in the Arc B580 – even the pre-orders were extremely high.
Intel also confirmed to The Verge that demand for the Arc B580 is strong, with many retailers running out of stock shortly after the first batch was released. The company representative added that Intel plans to add new stock every week to meet the market.
